Family Member Program
The Family Member Program allows family members or partners, residing at the same residence of other Rotary members, to become a member of the Essex Rotary Club attending club meetings, serving on projects, voting on club matters, serving as club officers and on club committees. For purposes of the Family Member Plan, each person participating as a member will be referred to as a Family Designee.
The Family Member Plan is being introduced to recognize that family members often participate greatly in Essex Rotary meetings and events. This Family Member plan allows other family members to enjoy the benefits and designation of being a Rotarian. It also gives attendance credit to each Family Member designee when any designee attends a meeting or make-up eligible meeting or event.
The Family Member Plan may be modified by Rotary International or District 7850 guidelines in the future.
The Essex Rotary Club will administer the Family Member Plan as follows:
1. Approval. Any household may be considered for Family Membership by submitting an application. The club’s standard membership approval process will be followed.
2. Eligibility. Any household may apply for Family Membership and designees may include any household member who is at least 18 years of age.
3. Changing designees. The Family Member may change any of its designees mid-Rotary year, effectively transferring the designee membership. There may be a small administrative fee for changing designees
4. Attendance. The attendance requirement for the Family Member is 50% club meetings. Eachdesignee of the Family Member will have credit for attending a meeting as long as at least one designee attends the meeting. If more than one designee attends a meeting (or makeup-eligible event), only one attendance credit is granted. If one Family Member has reached “Senior Active” status (combination of years of service and age greater than or equal to 85), each family designee will be exempt from attendance requirements.
5. RI registration. Each designee will be an official member of the Essex Rotary club, District 7850 and Rotary International.
6. Badges. Each Family Member Designee will have a badge with the designee’s classification.
7. Votes and quorum. For the purpose of general meetings and club matters, each FamilyDesignee will have a vote
8. Holding office. Each Family Designee, as an individual, can hold any office in the Rotary club to which the designee is elected in the normal way.
9. Financial obligations. The Family Member will pay Annual Dues; this will be the standard Club Dues (currently $200 per year) for the first designee, $150 for each additional designee.multiplied by the number of designees. Family Members are expected to support each of the club’s fundraising activities. Annual Contribution to the Rotary Foundation is encouraged.
10. Conversion. A designee of the Family Plan may apply to convert to an individual member of the club.
11. Bulletin and communication. The club will send the weekly newsletter to each designee.
12. Receipt of The Rotarian. A single subscription to The Rotarian magazine will be provided for the Family Member.
13. Committee, Fundraising and Service Project Participation. The Family Member (which includes each of the designees) will choose, or will be assigned to, one of the Charities Committees. All designees are to make themselves familiar with the goals, budget and projects of their Charities Committee. At least one designee should attend the monthly Charities Committee meeting, which typically takes place the last Wednesday of the month. Each designee is also encouraged to serve on club Administrative and/or Fundraising Committee(s), and each designee may choose which of these committee(s) they will serve on. The Family Member should have at least one designee present to serve at each of the club’s fundraising and service projects, including, but not limited to: Champlain Valley Expo Corn Booth, Senior Holiday Luncheon, Salvation Army Bell Ringing, Hockey Tournament and Golf Tournament.

We apply for Family membership in the Rotary Club of Essex, VT, and authorize our consideration by the Board of Directors. If approved, we authorize publication of our designees to the Essex Rotary members for consideration by the club membership. We agree to abide by the requirements of membership and to pay the annual dues promptly. We understand that we may have up to four designees.
