Meeting Recap

Greetings fellow Rotarians!  Tonight we held our annual Service Above Self Dinner at The Essex!  District Governor Sonny Holt joined close to one hundred guests to honor this year’s recipients of the Club’s Service Above Self Award.  This annual award is granted to members of the community who exemplify the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self” through their actions.  This year’s recipients were Pat and Beth O’Connor.  Mr. and Ms. O’Connor are the owners of Little Fenway and Little Wrigley, which are ¼ scale replicas of the two famous baseball parks bearing their names.   The parks are located in their backyard and the O’Connors graciously allow various charitable organizations, such as the Travis Roy Foundation, to use them for fundraising purposes.  To date, over $2 million has been raised for a number of charities at this venue.  In recognition of their efforts, our Club bestowed Paul Harris Fellowships upon the O’Connors.  For more information about the great work they have done, please visit the Little Fenway website at http://www.littlefenway.com/fenway/about.php .  For the first time ever, our Club also honored four (4) local public safety professionals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in the past year.  This year’s honorees were, Jason Ziter from the Essex Town Fire Department;  Kyle Trudo from the Essex Junction Fire Department;  Peggy McCabe from Essex Rescue; and George Murtie from the Essex Police Department.  These four (4) individuals were all presented with plaques that recognized their tremendous contributions to the community.

Essex Rotary All-Star Hockey Classic

Preparations are well under way for this event and we will soon be soliciting volunteers to help out on game day.  Both games and banquets are being held on Saturday, March 23, 2013.   Like the Golf Tournament,  the Corn Booth, and the Senior Luncheon,  this is an event where we really do need all hands on deck and we will need as many volunteers as possible.  As such, we would ask that all Rotarians be prepared to help out at this event.  For more information, please contact myself at JFR@essexvtlaw.com

Williston-Richmond Rotary Club Ski Challenge
