Meeting Recap

Greetings Rotarians!  Today we held our annual scholarship luncheon where we honored recipients of this year’s Rotary scholarship awards.  Six area high school seniors were granted scholarships in the amount of $1,000.00 each in recognition of both their academic achievements and their commitment to serving others. This year’s recipients from Mount Mansfield Union High School were Emma Dubay and Madeline Granda.  Emma will be studying medicine at St. Olaf College in Minnesota and Madeline will be attending Dickinson College in Pennsylvania.  Ian Erickson and Moira Taylor were this year’s recipients from Essex High School.  Ian will be studying political science at Bates College in Maine in the fall and Moira will be enrolled at the College of William and Mary in Virginia.  The two recipients from the Center for Technology in Essex were David Fraser and Kathryn Maurer.  David will be studying to be an arborist at Paul Smith College in the Adirondacks and Maura will be attending the University of Vermont.  We also recognized this year’s recipient of the Carolyn Barra Scholarship.  This $2,000.00 scholarship is awarded on an annual basis to a student who excels academically, is active in the performing arts and has demonstrated a commitment to community service.  This year’s recipient was Essex High School student, Nathan Watts.  Nathan will be studying computer science and music at Tufts University in Massachusetts.  Congratulations to these seven deserving students on their achievements!

Memorial Day Parade

Our Club will be represented at this year’s Essex Memorial Day parade.  The parade is scheduled for this coming Saturday and marching Rotarians should plan to meet at the Champlain Valley Exposition at around 8:30am.  Please contact Phil Murdock if you are interested in participating in this event.

Essex Rotary Changeover Dinner

Please mark your calendars for the evening of Wednesday, June 25th.  Our Club will be holding its annual Changeover Dinner at The Essex on that date.  This dinner will be held in lieu of our regularly scheduled meeting that day.  As we did last year, awards will be given out for Rookie of the Year; Rotarian of the Year and the Unsung Hero of the Year. In addition, the Club will also bestow the first ever Service Above and Beyond Awards to deserving Rotarians.  Descriptions of each of these awards are now on the website, so we would ask that you please consider nominating any worthy candidates.  All nominations should be in by June 1st!

Upcoming Meeting Schedule:  Wednesday, May 28, 2014 – Next week we will be holding our charitable committee meetings.
