Meeting Recap

Greetings Rotarians!  Our special guest President for today’s meeting was Mark Benton!  Today we held our monthly charitable committee meetings.  We are inching very close to the end of the Rotary year, so if your committees haven’t done so already, please figure out a plan for how you want to allocate your charitable funds.  The sooner you get your check requests to Kristin Winer, the better.

Literacy Committee Donation

As many of you know, the community of Lac Megantic, Quebec suffered an incredible amount of damage and loss of life when a train exploded in the center of town. The town’s public library was among the buildings destroyed in this tragic accident.   Since that time, efforts have been made to finance the construction of a new library.  The Essex Rotary Literacy Committee is pleased to announce that it recently donated $3,000.00 towards this effort.  This is just yet another example of the many ways in which the money we raise through our various fundraisers can have a huge impact on the lives of others.

2014 Essex Rotary Golf Tournament

Speaking of fundraisers, our largest one is a mere two weeks away!  The Essex Rotary Golf Tournament will be held at the Links at Lang Farm on Wednesday, June 11th.  Rotarians have done a great job of bringing in cart and hole sponsors, but it is not too late to get more sponsors in!  Dave Johnson has asked that hole sponsors get the texts of their logos to the golf committee by next Wednesday at the latest so that they can be printed on the signs.  Logos for cart sponsors may be submitted up to the day of the event.

Essex Rotary Changeover Dinner

Please mark your calendars for the evening of Wednesday, June 25th.  Our Club will be holding its annual Changeover Dinner at The Essex on that date.  This dinner will be held in lieu of our regularly scheduled meeting that day.  As we did last year, awards will be given out for Rookie of the Year; Rotarian of the Year and the Unsung Hero of the Year. In addition, the Club will also bestow the first ever Service Above and Beyond Awards to deserving Rotarians.  Descriptions of each of these awards are now on the website, so we would ask that you please consider nominating any worthy candidates.  All nominations should be in by June 1st!

Upcoming Meeting Schedule:  Wednesday, June 4, 2014 –  Don Stevens, Sogomo (Chief) of the Abenaki tribe of Nulhegan-Memphremagog will be our speaker.
