Meeting Recap

Greetings Rotarians! Today we were visited by representatives from the Population Media Center (PMC). This non-profit organization was founded in 1988 and it strives to improve the health of people around the world through the use of entertainment-education strategies. By utilizing tools such as serialized dramas on both radio and television, PMC aims to create characters with whom the audience can relate that evolve as role models for positive behavior change.  Every program is carefully tailored to account for the cultural sensibilities of each particular audience.  PMC had found that this approach is the most effective means of getting important messages and information to audiences in many different communities across the world.  For more information about PMC and its programs, please visit its website at www.populationmedia.org

Holiday Senior Luncheon

While most of us have fall festivals, apple-picking (at Chapin Orchards, of course) and Halloween on our minds, it is never too soon to start thinking about our next big service project.  This year’s holiday senior luncheon has been scheduled for December 3rd at the Champlain Valley Exposition.  This is a great event that truly allows our Club to give back to the community in a meaningful way.  It is important that we have as many Rotarians as possible on hand to help put together gift bags, serve food and clean up, so please mark your calendars for this date.  More details about the Senior Luncheon will follow in upcoming weeks.

Rotary Theme for October

This month has been designated as “Vocational Service Month” by Rotary International.  As Rotarians, we are expected to adhere to and promote the highest ethical standards in all of our respective occupations.  In particular, Rotarians should apply the Four Way Test not only in their personal lives, but in their professional lives as well.  We should also take the time to recognize the worthiness of all useful occupations and not just those that are pursued by our fellow Rotarians.  Finally, this month is a good opportunity for Rotarians to reflect on the different ways they can contribute their vocational talents for the good of the community at large.

Upcoming Meeting Schedule:  Wednesday, October 8, 2014 – Our speaker will be Adjutant General, Stephen Cray from the Vermont National Guard.
