Weekly Club Newsletter 2015 04 15

 

       Greetings Rotarians!  We started out today’s meeting with the induction of two new members to our Club.  Kristin and Sean Fitzgerald are longtime Essex residents who operate Transitions Physical Therapy in Jericho.  Sean and Kristin were collectively inducted in the family category.  Like the corporate category, the family category utilizes the “Free Bird Rule” of allowing any family member or combination of family members to attend meetings and Rotary events.  Please take the opportunity to introduce yourselves to Sean and Kristin and make them feel welcome.  Our speaker today was the Honorable Miro Weinberger, Mayor of the City of Burlington.  Mayor Weinberger discussed the challenges he faced when he came into office and the success he has had in implementing much-needed changes in the manner in which the City handles its finances. He proudly announced that the City’s bond rating has dramatically improved and that the Burlington Telecom lawsuit was settled on terms that were very favorable to the taxpayers.  His goal is to continue fostering development and opportunities in the City and to focus on finding more housing options for the citizens of Burlington.  He concluded his talk by fielding questions about topics ranging from a possible train between Essex and Burlington and possible collaboration with the University of Vermont on construction of a new sports facility or arena.

 

 

            The drive for another successful Golf Tournament is now officially on!  Every Rotarian is asked to do his or her part in securing cart and hole sponsors for this event.  This is our Club’s biggest fundraiser, so it is important that everyone helps out with this effort!

 

 

            Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the District Conference which will be held at the Stoweflake in Stowe from May 29^th through May 31^st.  Registration materials for this event may be found on the District 7850 website at www.rotary7850.org

 

Upcoming Meeting Schedule:  Wednesday, April 22, 2015 – Our speaker will be Susan Bulmer, Regional Manager of the Vermont Department of Forests and Parks.
