Meeting Recap

Greetings Rotarians! Today we held our annual Scholarship Luncheon in honor of the recipients of this year’s Essex Rotary scholarships and the Carolyn Barra Scholarship.  The Essex Rotary scholarships are donated to six students from Mount Mansfield Union, Essex High School and the Center for Technology in Essex who demonstrate high ethical standards and apply the ideal of “Service Above Self” in their community and personal lives.  This year’s recipients were Molly Larson and Jesse Naumann from Mount Mansfield Union; Erin Johnson and Steven Maloney from Essex High School; and Sarah Ferland and William Harris from the Center for Technology.  Each student was given a scholarship of $1,000.00.  We also awarded the Carolyn Barra Scholarship in the amount of $2,000.00 in recognition of a student who excels academically, is involved in the performing arts and is active in community service. Carolyn Barra was an Essex High School student who was diagnosed with primary pulmonary hypertension, a condition for which there is no cure. Carolyn passed away in 2002 during her senior year in high school and the scholarship was created in her memory. Essex High School senior, Giselle Glaspie was this year’s recipient of the Carolyn Barra Scholarship.  Congratulations to all seven of these young adults on their achievements and for being selected as scholarship recipients!
