Meeting Recap

Greetings fellow Rotarians!  As a follow-up announcement to our Service Above Self dinner, we are pleased to report that fellow Rotarian, Brad LaRose was nominated by his colleagues to receive a Service Above Self Award for his years of dedicated service to the Essex Police Department.  Brad was surprised with this recognition at our Service Above Self dinner last week. As Chief of the department, Brad has gone above and beyond the call of duty in making sure our community is safe.  Congratulations to Brad on this achievement!  Today we held our monthly charitable committee meetings but before that, Max Levy delivered a presentation on the upcoming municipal budgets that will be voted upon at Town Meeting Day this year.  Both the Town of Essex and Village of Essex Junction are looking to consolidate services in several areas in order to avoid redundancy and to maximize efficiency.  Max discussed the benefits of doing this and the savings both Town and the Village will realize through consolidation.  He encouraged people to attend the Town Meeting on February 29th and to vote on Tuesday, March 1.
Essex Rotary Key Bank All-Star Hockey Classic
The annual All-Star Hockey Classic is just a few weeks away!  Not only is this event usually our second biggest fundraiser, but it also generates a lot of publicity for our Club. The games are covered by media from Burlington to Brattleboro and between 400 and 500 hockey fans show up to cheer on the All-Stars. As always, the success of this event depends largely upon the many Rotarians who generously volunteer their time to work at each of the games.  A sign-up sheet is currently being distributed at meetings and you will soon be able to sign up for shifts on our web page.  There are ample opportunities to volunteer at each game, so please sign up!  For more information about this event and volunteering opportunities, please contact committee chair, Jeff Cabanaw.
Wanted: Rotary Pictures

Our Club’s 50th anniversary celebration will be held on Wednesday, April 13th at 5:30 pm.  As part of the celebration, the 50th anniversary committee is looking for photographs from Rotary events over the past 50 years.  If you have photographs - hard copies from the early years or digital copies from later years - please get them to Jeff Cabanaw as he is putting together a video for us that will be shown at the 50th anniversary dinner.  If you would like the hard copies returned to you, please indicate that on the envelope so that Jeff can get them back to the right person.

Upcoming Meeting Schedule:  March 2, 2016 – Our speaker will be Lt. General, Michael Dubie to discuss Revision Military eye-wear.
