Meeting Recap

Greetings fellow Rotarians!  We started today’s meeting off with a Paul Harris presentation to Nancy Freeze.  By donating $1,000.00 to the Rotary Foundation, Nancy earned the distinction of being named our Club’s newest Paul Harris Fellow.  Thank you very much to Nancy for you your generous support of the Rotary Foundation. Today we held our charitable committee meetings. So far, our Club has donated a good amount of the money we have raised to a number of very worthy causes. As we inch closer to the end of the Rotary year, committees are encouraged to develop plans for how they want to donate their remaining funds.

Vermont Rotary All-Star Hockey Classic

The 33rd annual Vermont Rotary All-Star Hockey Classic is now in the books!  The Harris Conference prevailed by a score of 4-1 in the women’s game and the men’s game was decided on a thrilling sudden death shootout in which the Austin Conference finally prevailed by a final score of 5-4.  Attendance at both games was very high which kept our cashiers and concession workers extremely busy!  We should have final numbers soon, but early returns indicate that the financial success of this year’s hockey classic will match that of last year’s event.  Thank you to all of the Rotarians who graciously volunteered your time and donated concessions to this event. A special thank you goes out to hockey chair, Jeff Cabanaw and  hockey committee members, Damon Clark; Sharon Dettenreider; Tylr Dunklow; Ron Line; Skip Oliver; Jessica Perreault; Trish Porter; Kaitlyn Raymond; and Max Seaton and for the hard work they have been putting into this  event since November. Hats off to everyone for once again making this event a huge success!

Essex High School Community Service Dinner

Our Club will once again help put on the Essex High School Community Service Dinner on Friday, April 6, 2017.  This event will recognize several Essex High School seniors for their service to the community. Thank you to the 12 Rotarians who have volunteered to help at this event and thank you to Amy Jackman for spearheading our Club’s involvement with it.
Heavenly Food Pantry Shifts

The next opportunities to volunteer at the Heavenly Food Pantry will be on April 27th and May 25th.  Please contact Sharon Dettenrieder if you would like to sign up for shifts.

Upcoming Meeting Schedule:  April 5, 2017 – As one fundraiser comes to a conclusion, another begins! Dave Johnson will be leading a pep talk about the Essex Rotary Golf Tournament which will be happening on June 14th. Once again, we’ll kick things off with the annual Club putting contest and several golf jokes of questionable taste from Dave.  This is our Club’s largest fundraiser, so we will need everyone’s help in making it a success!
