Meeting Recap

Greetings fellow Rotarians!  We kicked things off by inducting Michael Psaros as our newest member. If you haven’t done so already, please take the opportunity to introduce yourselves to Michael and make him feel welcome. Our speakers today were representatives from Voices for Education.  This is a diverse group of community members who have come together to identify a plan for making sure the newly consolidated Essex Westford School District (EWSD) is responsive to the needs of the communities it serves.  This initiative is financed by a three-year, $30,000.00 grant from the Nellie Mae Education Foundation and the 24 members of this committee include students, administrators, teachers, community members and school board representatives.  The goal of this organization is to provide regular opportunities for everyone in the community to have a say in the vision and future identity of the EWSD. The next opportunity to participate in an EWSD event will be a multi-cultural potluck dinner that will be held at Maple Street Park from 5-8pm on May 6th. For more information about Voices for Education, please visit its website at: http://www.ewsd.org/category/education-voices/

Essex Rotary Golf Tournament

We are a mere 40 days from the big day, but there is still a lot of work to be done! Our goal is to secure 50 hole sponsors and we currently only have 14! If you haven’t contacted your assigned sponsors yet, please do so soon!  If you are having trouble identifying potential sponsors, please contact Dave Johnson and he will provide you with names of potential sponsors.  Nancy Freeze will also be circulating a sign-up sheet for volunteers for this event in the next few weeks.  Remember, this is our Club’s biggest fundraiser and we need every Rotarian to pitch in on making it a success!

Heavenly Food Pantry Shifts

The next opportunities to volunteer at the Heavenly Food Pantry will be May 25th and June 22nd.  Please contact Sharon Dettenrieder if you would like to sign up for shifts.

Upcoming Meeting Schedule:  May 10, 2017 – Our speaker will be Jessica Cover, the Marketing and Communications Director for Run Vermont (the organization that runs the Vermont City Marathon and Relay).
