Structuring Vermont's School Districts - Status Report

Vermont is in the midst of trying to reduce costs associated with running our schools.  To this end, the Vermont Legislature established a Committee to make recommendations, including creating maps that redefine how schools are governed.  This committee is wrapping up its work and will report back to the Legislature in January on its findings.

The Essex Westford School District Board, led by Rob Carpenter (Chair) and Marlon Verasamy (Vice-Chair), have been very involved and publicly vocal about the process and proposed outcomes.  Specifically, EWSD has opposed the creation of a MEGA District of 20,000 students in Chittenden County where the next largest of the proposed 15 Districts would govern only 8,000 young learners.

Rob and Marlon will walk us through the process and discuss their objections to the MEGA District concept.
