Meeting Recap

Greetings Rotarians! Our regularly scheduled speaker was unable to attend today’s meeting, but that did not stop us from having an action-packed gathering!  We kicked things off with not one, but two inductions of new members.  Hannah Ricard and Emily Rowe were both welcomed to the Club as our newest Essex Rotarians.  Please take the time to introduce yourselves and to make Hannah and Emily feel welcome at our Club.  We were then treated to two classification talks from members.  The first was from Max Levy, one of our newer members.  Max moved from Utah to Vermont to start a 26 year career at IBM.  Max is currently doing some consulting work and he is an active member in our community. In addition to his work with the local Red Cross, Max serves on the board of directors for his homeowners’ association and represents Essex as a community liaison to the Chittenden Solid Waste District.  We then heard from Trish Porter, a longtime Essex Rotarian who recently returned to the Club.  Trish is originally from Connecticut.  She had previously been a member of a Rotary Club in Plattsburgh, New York before moving to Chittenden County.  During her first stint with our Club, Trish served as our Club’s Treasurer and as a member of our Board of Directors.  Trish resides in Williston with her family which includes husband, Bill, daughter Maureen and their two pets (a cat and a dog).  Thank you to Max and Trish for taking the time to tell us about yourselves!  We then concluded our meeting with our monthly Charitable Committee meetings.

Corn Booth

The 2014 Corn Booth is officially in the books!  The weather was great and by all accounts, the corn was delicious!  Ray Allaire will be presenting a full report on the finances at next week’s meeting, but preliminary reports indicate that our overall numbers will be slightly up from last year’s figures.  Thank you to all of the Rotarians and to the friends and family members who generously donated their time to keep the Corn Booth operating during the Fair.  A special thank you goes out to Ray Allaire and Holly Lemieux for once again doing a terrific job as the co-chairs of this event!  This is a huge undertaking and they both deserve a great deal of credit for this year’s success.

Upcoming Meeting Schedule:  Wednesday, September 10, 2014 – Our speaker will be Gail Stevenson from the Vermont Council on World Affairs.
