Meeting Recap

Greetings Rotarians!  Today’s speaker was fellow Essex Rotarian and Superintendent of the Chittenden Central Supervisory Union (CCSU), Judy DeNova.  Judy provided us with an overview of her district and the schools and communities that are a part of it. She pointed out that CCSU is a bit different from other supervisory unions in the sense it oversees a parks and recreation department, a skating facility and a center for technology education in addition to the community schools.  CCSU currently serves the Town of Essex, the Village of Essex Junction and the Town of Westford.  Judy informed us that a study is being conducted by a Regional Education District Study Committee to determine whether changing from the current operating model to a regional educational district would make sense for our community.  Some of the benefits of this proposed shift would include more efficiency.  For example, five school boards would be consolidated into one and seven budgets would be streamlined into one budget.  The new model would also provide more proportionate representation amongst the communities that are currently being served.  Judy noted that the goal of the committee is to have completed its study in time for the matter to be put to a public vote in November. Essex Rotary Key Bank All-Star Hockey Classic

We are now only two slots shy of having all of our volunteer shifts filled for this event.  Presently, we need someone to assist with cleanup after the men’s game (which will end at around 7:15) and a volunteer to work at the Rotary information table during the men’s game.  Please let Betty Poulin know if you are able to fill either of those shifts.  For those who volunteered to bring baked goods, we ask that you please drop them off at Katilyn Raymond’s office (the State Farm Insurance office on Upper Main Street) on Friday, March 20th.  If possible, please individually wrap each baked good for easier handling at the event.  Finally, a few people have asked about purchasing ads in the game program. We will certainly welcome any new ads, but we ask that you please get the text of your ad to Jeff Cabanaw or myself by noon on Friday as our programs are going to print that day.  Please let me know if you have any questions.
