Meeting Recap

Greetings Rotarians!  Today’s speaker was Kate Searles Brayton from the Essex Community Justice Center (ECJC).  Founded in 2003, the ECJC focuses on restorative justice when dealing with low-level criminal offenses with a particular focus on the victims and the impact the crimes have had on them. Often times, victims of crimes will be given the opportunity to meet with the perpetrators of the crimes where they will be given a chance to express the manner in which the crime has impacted them.  In many cases, the offenses that are directed to ECJC can be fully addressed through these programs which ultimately save the state and law enforcement officials time and money.  Several of the programs are driven by volunteers. Potential volunteers go through rigorous training and supervision by the ECJC.  In addition to the restorative justice portion of the program, the ECJC develops educational programs and facilitates community dialogues about crime prevention and public safety concerns.   For more information about this organization, please visit its website at:

Essex Rotary Key Bank All-Star Hockey Classic

We are now just a few days away from this event! We are still two slots shy of having all of our volunteer shifts filled for this event.  Presently, we need someone to assist with cleanup after the men’s game (which will end at around 7:15) and a volunteer to work at the Rotary information table during the men’s game.  Please let Betty Poulin know if you are able to fill either of those shifts.  For those who volunteered to bring baked goods, we ask that you please drop them off at Katilyn Raymond’s office (the State Farm Insurance office on Upper Main Street) on Friday, March 20th.  If possible, please individually wrap each baked good for easier handling at the event.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Volunteer Opportunities

Rotarians will have two opportunities to volunteer in community in the next few weeks.  On Thursday, March 26th, Sharon Dettenrieder is looking for volunteers to help out at the Heavenly Pantry Food Shelf from 3:00 to 6:00pm. Please contact Sharon if you are interested in helping out.  We are also looking for a handful of volunteers to help serve food and clean up at the Essex High School service recognition dinner on Thursday, April 9th. Please contact Amy Jackman if you would like to help out at this event.

Upcoming Meeting Schedule:  Wednesday, March 25, 2015 – We will be holding our monthly charitable committee meetings.
