Meeting Recap

Greetings fellow Rotarians!  We kicked things off today with a surprise presentation of a Paul Harris Fellowship.  In recognition of his years of service to our community, fellow Rotarian Mark Mendes was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship that was sponsored by a number of anonymous individuals. Congratulations to Mark on an honor well-deserved!  Today’s meeting marked the formal kick-off of the push for the Essex Rotary Golf Tournament. The ceremonies began with a figurative passing of the torch from the hockey committee to the golf committee as Damon Clark used a hockey stick to pass a golf ball to Dave Johnson.  In the midst of his many golf jokes (a couple of which were actually funny), Dave pointed out that the key to the success of this event is for all of our members to solicit as many hole and cart sponsors as we can.  As illustrated by his request for Rotarians to each put $1.00 in a hat, the act of simply asking will often times lead to positive results. This is our Club’s largest fundraiser and we are able to support a number of very worthwhile charitable endeavors from the money we raise from this event. For that reason, we really do need the support of every Rotarian in making sure this event continues to be a huge success. The meeting concluded with the annual putting contest which was won by Kristin Fitzgerald.  Kristin’s skills on the green earned her a freshly baked apple pie from The Essex!
