Meeting Recap

Greetings fellow Rotarians!  Our speaker today was Danielle Williams from the Northwest Vermont United Way. Danielle spoke at length about the volunteering opportunities that are available through the United Way’s Foster Grandparent and RSVP programs.  The Foster Grandparent program gives volunteers the opportunity to work in early education settings with children who might have exceptional needs or economic disadvantages. Teachers identify between one and four children in each of their classrooms who they believe would benefit from having a one-on-one volunteer working with them.  RSVP Volunteers are connected with non-profit agencies that address specific community needs in education, income and health.  Duties of RSVP Volunteers include providing support for Meals on Wheels; transporting older adults with disabilities to and from appointments; and working in schools with children. Volunteers choose where, when, and how often they want to volunteer. Danielle pointed out that there is a significant need for United Way volunteers in our area and she encouraged all of us to consider helping out.   If you are interested in volunteering for the United Way, please e-mail Danielle at daniellew@unitedwaynwvt.org or call her at 861-7821.
