Meeting Recap

Greetings fellow Rotarians! Today’s speaker was Allison Levy who was on hand to speak about the Alpha Delta Kappa Haiti project. Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK) is an international organization for women educators that recently joined forces with Imagine Missions to help raise money for the T.E.A.C.H. program (which stands for Teaching, Educating, and Affirming the Children of Haiti).  The goal of this program is to boost the educational facilities and opportunities for children in Haiti.  In addition to raising money for this endeavor, individuals from ADK traveled to Haiti to provide some hand’s on training for the teachers at the school they were assisting.  Allison described many of the challenges that Haiti faces and why providing these opportunities is so important.  For more information about ADK, please visit its website at: www.alphadeltakappa.org and for more information about Imagine Missions, please visit their website at:

Essex Rotary Golf Tournament

The annual Essex Rotary Golf Tournament is only a few weeks away! We are still hoping to surpass last year’s net profit of over $26,000.00, but we have a lot of work to do in order to get there. If you haven’t done so already, please contact your assigned sponsors and encourage them to get their pledges and checks in soon!

Essex Rotary Pot Luck Dinner

President Trish Porter will be hosting a pot luck dinner at her home on Wednesday, May 30th.  This event will be held in lieu of our regularly scheduled meeting that day.  Rotarians are encouraged to bring their family members to what should be a very fun event.  The Club will also be holding a basket raffle to raise funds for our general account. A sign-up sheet is being circulated, so please let Trish know how many people from your party will attend and what you plan to bring to the dinner.

Heavenly Pantry Food Shelf

Thank you to all who are signed up to work at the food shelf on Monday, May 14th and May 24th.  The next opportunities to volunteer will be on Monday, June 11th from 5:30 to 7:30; and Thursday, June 21st from 3:30 to 6:30. Please let Sharon Dettenrieder know if you are able to fill any of these shifts.

Upcoming Meeting Schedule:  Wednesday, May 23, 2018 – We will be hosting our annual Essex Rotary Scholarship luncheon to celebrate this year’s recipients of our Essex Rotary Scholarships as well as this year’s recipient of the Carolyn Barra Memorial Scholarship.
