Greetings fellow Rotarians! Our speaker today was Jillian Fisher who was recently crowned Miss Vermont for 2019.  Jillian is a student at the University of Vermont who hopes to become a veterinarian.  Jillian has a long relationship with pageants as her mother has run the Miss Taunton (Massachusetts) competition for several years.  This experience encouraged Jillian to compete for the title in Vermont and for the title of Miss America later this year. In addition to serving as a role model for younger people, Jillian hopes to use her position as a means of raising awareness for those who have issues with substance abuse.  This is an issue that has personally touched her as she has two uncles who are both recovering from substance addiction.  For more information about the Miss Vermont program, please visit its website at: https://missvermont.org/about/

 

 

            Our per person meal prices with The Essex have recently increased.  Accordingly, our meal prices will increase to $17.50 per person each week.  We are pleased to report, however, that there is a dessert and coffee only option for those who are not interested in a heavy lunch.  The price for that option is $6.50 per person.  We are also pleased to report that we will be holding two breakfast meetings at The Essex this fall.  These two meetings will be held at 7:30am on Wednesday, September 25^th and Wednesday, October 30^th.  Each of these meetings will be held in lieu of our luncheon meetings on those weeks.  Our hope is that members who have difficulty making it to lunch meetings will find it easier to come to morning meetings. If well-attended, we may continue having monthly breakfast meetings permanently.

We especially encourage some of our newer members to sign up, particularly those who are unable to attend our weekly meetings on a regular basis. Not only is this a great way to contribute to the Club, but it is a nice opportunity to get to know some of your fellow Rotarians. Please remember that friends, co-workers and family members are not only welcome, but encouraged to help fill slots.  Rotarians are also reminded that Corn Dollars are available for purchase if you would like them.  $20.00 will give you 10 Corn Dollars.  Corn Dollars can be purchased at the front desk prior to meetings.

            We are looking for volunteers to help staff the Heavenly Pantry Food Shelf on the following dates: Monday, August 12^th (5:15pm); Thursday, August 22^nd (3:30pm.) Please contact Sharon Dettenrieder at sharon.dettenrieder@gmail.com if you are able to fill any of these shifts.
