ROTARY CLUB OF ESSEX
WEEKLY NEWSLETTER

SEPTEMBER 25, 2019

Meeting Recap

Greetings fellow Rotarians! For the first time in Club history, we held a breakfast meeting in lieu of our usual lunch meeting.  Our speaker today was current District 7850 Governor Richard Fox.  Richard spoke to us about how he got involved with Rotary and implored each us to explore the reasons “why” people join and remain in Rotary.  He emphasized that as times change, so does Rotary and the manner in which we conduct our business.  Richard pointed out that there is no set model for operating a Club and that each Club needs to find a way to operate that suits the specific needs of its members and its community.  For example, Richard indicated that a number of Clubs are moving away from the model of meeting on a weekly basis to better accommodate the busy schedules of their members.  He stated that Clubs these days are becoming less defined by their meetings and more defined by their activities and contributions to the communities.  In closing, Richard encouraged all of us to participate in the various District events that occur throughout the year including the District Conference scheduled at Jay Peak in early May.

Essex Eats Out

Our Club is once again supporting Essex Eats Out.  Each year, our Club assumes the responsibility of putting on a dinner for the community.  On Friday, October 4th, our Club will put on a dinner at the First Congregational Church in Essex Junction.  We not only need people to volunteer to work at this event, but we need Members to bring food items as well.  If you are able to help, please sign up on the sign-up sheet that is being distributed at meetings.  Or you can contact Penny Klein at penny@sugarmaplecollegeconsulting.com if you have any questions about this event.

Upcoming Breakfast Meetings

Just as a reminder, we will be holding our second breakfast meeting on Wednesday, October 30th.  Once again, this meeting will be held in lieu of our luncheon meeting that day. Our hope is that hosting meetings at different times will present opportunities to more of our members who aren’t able to attend our lunch meetings on a regular basis.

Heavenly Pantry Food Shelf

We are looking for volunteers to help staff the Heavenly Pantry Food Shelf on the following dates; Monday, October 14th (5:15pm); and Thursday, October 24th (3:30pm).  Please contact Sharon Dettenrieder at sharon.dettenrieder@gmail.com if you are able to fill any of these shifts.

Upcoming Meeting Schedule:  Wednesday, October 2, 2019 – Our speaker will be Jesse Bell, Administrator for the Bellcate School.
