Meeting Recap

Greetings fellow Rotarians. Today marked the beginning of the new Rotary Year and Max Seaton’s first official day as our Club’s President! Our speaker today was Lia Rubel.  Lia is a Spaulding High School graduate and she is currently a sophomore at Emory University.  In addition to being the 2018 winner of the District Rotary Speech Contest, Lia is a volunteer with Telehealth for Seniors.  This non-profit organization facilitates access for seniors and low-income individuals to healthcare professionals, family members and friends. They accomplish this by providing these individuals with electronic devices and the technical support to use them.  Telehealth for Seniors uses a network of 210 volunteers to provide technical support, collect and distribute the phones, and assist with the process of connecting its clients with the resources they need. The long-term benefits of this program are reduced patient costs; less hospitalizations; and increased compliance with health reporting regulations.  The program also gives its users more human contact which, in the midst of a pandemic, is crucial for seniors and people who are unable to safely leave their homes.  So far, this program has distributed 1,000 devices nationwide and has raised $40,000.00.  For more information about this organization and what you can do to help, please visit the following website: https://www.telehealthforseniors.org/ Donations to this organization can also be made by visiting the following link: https://www.gofundme.com/f/telehealth-access-for-seniors

Membership Report

Thank you to all of the members who renewed their memberships for the 2020-2021 year.  We are starting the new year with 53 members and are always looking to increase our ranks.  If you know of anyone who might be interested in joining our Club, by all means, encourage them to join!

Golf Tournament – Cancelled

It is with great regret that we announce that this year’s Rotary Golf Tournament that had been scheduled for June and postponed to late September has been cancelled due to COVID 19.  Our expectation is that this event, as well as the hockey classic and the corn booth will be back and better than ever in 2021.  In the meantime, members are encouraged to start thinking of safe and socially distant ways for our Club to raise funds this year.
