Meeting Recap

Greetings fellow Rotarians!  We started the meeting off by inducting our newest member.  Sharon Dettenrieder was sponsored by Bill Parmelee and comes to us having served as a Rotarian in Oneonta, New York.  Please take the time to welcome Sharon to our Club and to make her feel welcome.   Our speaker today was Jim Folger from the Burlington Free Press.   Jim shared that this newspaper has been in existence for 186 years and that it is in the process of revamping its format.   He indicated that great efforts have been made to connect readers through social media and the internet.  Jim also mentioned that the Free Press recently made a $2.4 million investment in printer upgrades, the result of which has been a sleek and updated look to the daily paper people receive.  Jim emphasized the future of print media will remain rosy so long as papers like the Burlington Free Press continue to adapt with the times and utilize the newest forms of technology.

Essex Rotary All-Star Hockey Classic

We are still looking for several volunteers for this event that will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013.  Presently, we are woefully understaffed at the men’s game and we could really use a few more volunteers at the banquets as well.  This is a special event for a lot of high school seniors and has raised a decent amount of money for the Club in the past few years, so it is really important that we get these slots filled. Don’t forget that these shifts can be counted as make-ups, so this is a great way for people to boost their attendance numbers!  You can sign up at: http://www.clubrunner.ca/Data/7850/1437/HTML/191489//2013HockeyClassicVolunteers.pdf ,  or you can contact Betty Poulin at betty.poulin@gmail.com
