Meeting Recap

Greetings fellow Rotarians!  Today we recognized longtime Rotarian, Norm Faunce.  For those who didn’t know, Norm and his wife, Marjorie are moving to Massachusetts to be closer to their family.  In honor of Norm’s many years of selfless service to the Club and the community in general, Nancy and Mike LeBoeuf graciously donated enough of their Paul Harris Fellow credits to Norm to qualify him as a Paul Harris Plus One Fellow.   The Club then enjoyed a cake that was made by The Essex especially for this occasion.  Thank you Norm for your dedication to Rotary!   Our speakers today were Matthew Johnson and Donna Thomas who were on hand to discuss the Vermont Haiti Project.  This organization was formed in 2007 and it serves to increase sustainability in the nation of Haiti through people-to-people partnerships.  This organization recently helped provide pure drinking water to Haitian communities, particularly those that were affected by the crippling earthquake that hit that nation in 2010.  For more information about this organization, please visit its website at: http://www.vermonthaitiproject.org/about.html

Essex Rotary All-Star Hockey Classic

At this point we appear to be in decent shape with volunteers for this event.  Thank you to the Rotarians who have signed up.  A special thank you goes out to the many non-Rotarians who have volunteered to help us and to the members of the Club who are doing double (and in some cases, triple) shifts.  Thus far, the event has gotten some great publicity in several Vermont newspapers, so we are hopeful for a good crowd.

Community Service Dinner

Volunteers are needed for a Community Service Dinner at Essex High School from 5:30 to 7:30 on Thursday, April 11th.  Several high school seniors from the area will be recognized at this dinner for their community service efforts.  Please contact President Phil Murdock for more information.

District Events

The Rotary Leadership Institute is offering courses in leadership development on April 13th at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.  This is an excellent opportunity for members who are interested in ascending the leadership ranks.  For more information, please visit: http://www.rlinea.com/Courses.htm

There will also be a District Assembly at Hanover High School on Saturday, April 27th from 8:00am to 2:30pm.  This is a good chance for newer Rotarians to learn more about how things work at the District level.

Upcoming Meeting Schedule:  March 27, 2013 –  Aaron Fastman will be talking about “You Got Junk”.
