Meeting Recap

Greetings fellow Rotarians!  John Andrews started the meeting by introducing us to his granddaughter, Leah.  She was one of 152 athletes who represented the United States at the Special Olympics in Pyeong Chang, South Korea this past winter.  Leah participated in several skiing events and she proudly displayed the medal she brought home. Congratulations to Leah for her efforts!  For the second consecutive week, we had the chance to recognize a Paul Harris Fellow. Heidi Brosseau became a Paul Harris Fellow by contributing $1,000.00 to the Rotary Foundation. Congratulations to Heidi on this achievement!   Our speakers for the day were Suzanne Johnson, the Major Gifts Officer of the American Red Cross and Max Levy, a longtime volunteer for that organization.  Ms. Johnson stated that the Red Cross is a multi-faceted organization that does more than just organize blood drives.  It is a volunteer-driven organization that is instrumental in providing disaster-relief efforts throughout the globe.  For example, Red Cross volunteers served over 17 million meals to individuals affected by Hurricane Sandy this past fall.  Max Levy followed up by sharing his volunteer experience in Long Island in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.  Both Max and Suzanne emphasized that the Red Cross is driven by both the financial generosity of it supporters and the efforts of their many volunteers.  For more information about this organization, please visit their website at http://www.redcross.org/vt/Burlington

Golf Tournament

We are now just days away from the biggest fundraiser of the Rotary year!  The Essex Rotary Golf Tournament will take place on Wednesday, June 12th at the Links at Lang Farm.  Thank you to all of the volunteers who have signed up to help out with this event and thank you to all who have helped secure sponsors for the tournament.  A special thank you goes out to Dave Johnson and the rest of the golf committee for their tireless efforts in making this event such a success.

Essex Rotary Changeover Dinner

This year’s changeover dinner will be held at Chapin Orchards on Saturday, June 29th.  You are strongly encouraged to bring your family members to what should be a great day at the orchard.  We will be conducting our annual changeover ceremonies as well as the Rotary Auction.  There will be a number of great items up for bid at the auction, so be sure to bring your checkbooks!  Finally, for the second consecutive year, we will be honoring our Rotarian of the Year and our Essex Rotary Rookie of the Year at this event.  Please be sure to submit your nominations for each of these categories to President Phil for consideration.
