Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (VABVI)

Since 1926, the Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired has provided services and support to people in Vermont with vision issues.  VABVI is a statewide organization that provides a range of services, including support for adults and children.  

The Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (VABVI) is a private organization employing Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVI) and Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialists (COMS) throughout the state of Vermont.  We provide direct services, consultation services, assessments, and  hands-on training for children (ages 0– 22), teaching them skills that are unique to children with visual impairments, as defined in the Expanded Core Curriculum below:

• compensatory or functional academic skills, such as braille instruction
• orientation and mobility
• social interaction skills
• independent living skills
• recreation and leisure skills
• career education
• use of assistive technology
• sensory efficiency skills
• self-determination
