Meeting Recap

Greetings fellow Rotarians! Today we heard from fellow Rotarian, Max Levy about his recent experiences as a Red Cross volunteer in Houston, Texas.  In 2005, Max’s extended family was affected by Hurricane Irene.  Based on this very personal experience, Max realized that he wanted to do more to help those whose lives were impacted by disasters.  After extensive training, Max became an official emergency response volunteer for the Red Cross.  When Hurricane Harvey hit the Houston area, Max was one of the first to volunteer to go down there to help.  While there, Max delivered meals and vital supplies to those who had lost everything due to flooding.  In spite of the oppressive heat and humidity, Max and his fellow volunteers worked diligently to make sure people were getting the assistance we needed.  We also heard briefly from Kevin Mazuzan, Executive Director of the regional Red Cross.  Kevin explained that 96% of the people who provide assistance through the Red Cross are volunteers like Max.  He mentioned that they are always looking for volunteers as well as financial support. Thank you to Max and his fellow Red Cross volunteers for perfectly exemplifying the motto of Service Above Self!  For more information about the Red Cross, please visit: http://www.redcross.org/local/new-hampshire-vermont
