Meeting Recap

Greetings fellow Rotarians!  Today marked the “official” kick-off of the 2013 Essex Rotary Golf Tournament!  To get everyone in the spirit of the event, the Golf Committee held a putting contest at the meeting.  The competition was tight but eventually Marie “The Eagle” Schonholtz prevailed and took home bragging rights and some baked goods from The Essex .  The Golf Tournament will take place on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at the Links at Lang Farm Golf Course in Essex.  This event is our biggest fundraiser, so it is important that all members pitch in to help out.  Every Rotarian is asked to bring at least one sponsor for the tournament and we would ask that all Rotarians participate on the day of the event by either playing in the tournament or by filling one of the many volunteer spots available.  Following the golf kick-off, we were introduced to the speaker for the day, Bill Elliston from the ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center in Burlington.  Otherwise known as “the ECHO Center”, this facility focuses on educating its visitors about the flora, fauna, history and geography of Lake Champlain.  Most know the ECHO Center as an aquarium with interactive exhibits for children, however, Mr. Elliston pointed out that ECHO offers a variety of educational opportunities for adults as well.  For more information about the ECHO Center, please visit its website at: http://echovermont.org/

Upcoming District Events

The Rotary Leadership Institute is offering courses at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, New Hampshire on April 13, 2013.  This is a great opportunity for those who are interested in ascending the leadership ranks in our Club.  The District 7850 Assembly is also set for April 27, 2013 at Hanover High School in Hanover, New Hampshire.  This assembly will give participants a better understanding of what is happening with Rotary at the District level.  Our Club will cover the registration fees for any members who wish to attend, so please contact either Kristin Winer or Heather Lemon if you would like to participate in either event.

Upcoming Meeting Schedule:  April 10, 2013 –  Governor Peter Shumlin will be our speaker.  Please let President Phil know immediately if you plan on bringing guests to this meeting so he can get a headcount to The Essex..
