Oct 07, 2023 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM |
Price Chopper on Route 15 in Essex Town |
Event Report from Tim Gendron:
Dear Fellow Rotarians,
On a Beautiful Saturday, October 1st, our Rotary Club held another food drive to benefit the Heavenly Food Pantry. There was a wonderful response by our community to support this service project as we filled 34 boxes of non-perishable food items and goods. A rough estimate is approximately 900 pounds collected and delivered to Heavenly.
Thank you to the Food Drive Team of Sharon Dettenrieder, Lois Parmelee and Jean Ashe who helped organize the event. Thank you also to the volunteers who came out to work the project; Greg Morgan, Kristin Winer, Lois Parmelee, David Lavallee, Sharon Dettenrieder, Amy Jackman and son, Zachary, Jason Ruwet, Bill Porter, Kaitlyn Raymond and Max Seaton and for Rotarians who dropped off food items. A special thank you goes out to Matt and Erica Lumsden of Lumsden Real Estate who loaned us their van truck for the day. It would be very difficult to do this work without their truck.
I personally am very pleased with these results to benefit our community and for people who continue to struggle to consistently put food on their tables.
Sincerely,
Tim Gendron
The Rotary Club of Essex will be holding a food drive at the Price Chopper Essex on Center Rd. October 1st from 9am to 2pm. Donated food will be collected to benefit the Heavenly Food Pantry in Essex Jct. The Heavenly Food Pantry serves approximately 80 families per month in the Essex Community. It is an essential food program to help feed our hungry neighbors.
Please go to PC on October 1st and help Rotary collect non-perishable food items. Rotary Club members will be present to assist donors with info about the specific needs for Heavenly Food Pantry. Many thanks to Matt Lumsden Real Estate who is lending their box van to transport the collected items to Heavenly Food Pantry.
For Club members: below is the logistical note from Food Insecurity Committee Chair Tim Gendron describing the event in greater detail and seeking volunteers to step up.
Our Rotary Club will hold another food drive on October 1st at the Price Chopper in Essex from 9am to 2pm. The items collected will go to the Heavenly Food Pantry in Essex Jct, This is an essential service project for our community since food insecurity is still alive and well. Therefore, I am asking for your help on that day to greet customers as they enter the store and help loading the goods into the truck.
We will also need a couple of volunteers to unload the truck at the First Congregational Church. I have a signup sheet for one-hour shifts, but you can signup for longer if you so desire. Please contact me via email or phone. My cell is 802-355-9449; text or call.
Attached is a description of the event and a listing of the items needed. If you are unable to help and wish to donate items or money, we will gladly accept any offer. Consider bringing items to our dinner meal on Wednesday night.
Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.

2023-10-19 14:00:00Z | Oct 19, 2023 | Apple Gleening at Chapin Orchard |
Oct 19, 2023 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM |
Chapin Orchard |
Note from Tim Gendron, project coordinator: Also NOTE: Date is tentative and will be determined in part by weather. Essex Rotary member Philand Helen Murdock of Chapin Orchards need our help. Phil has stated to me that they have an abundance of apples still in the orchard and he is hoping we can help fill boxes with apples to donate to the local food shelves next week. My request here is to mobilize a group of volunteers to collect these apples before they go to waste. Looking at the forecast for next week showers are expected on Monday and Tuesday with dry days for Wednesday and Thursday. I wish to focus on this project for Wednesday and/or Thursday. This is a gleaning opportunity that will help a fellow Rotarian who wants to donate the boxes we fill to benefit our community. This is the true meaning of "Service Above Self" for everyone involved.
Please contact me via email or phone/text at 802-355-9449.
