Meeting Recap

Greetings fellow Rotarians! We had a very busy meeting today.  We started things off by inducting David Lavallee in the Club as our newest member. If you haven’t done so already, please take the opportunity to welcome David into our Club.  We then had the privilege of recognizing Kristin Winer as a Paul Harris Fellow Plus 3.  Kristin earned this honor by donating at least $4,000.00 to the Rotary Foundation during her membership.  Thanks to the generosity of Rotarians like Kristin, the Rotary Foundation continues to provide the financial means necessary for Rotary to achieve its good work across the globe.  Our speaker today was 2018-2019 District Governor Larry Vars.  Governor Vars is a member of the Lancaster (NH) Rotary Club and is currently speaking at all 42 of the Clubs in our District.  He started his talk by discussing the importance of connecting with the younger people of our communities through programs like the Rotary Youth Exchange or Rotaract.  He also described Rotary’s Pyramid of Peace, which is a plan that Rotary International hopes will guide Clubs worldwide.  The foundation of the pyramid is based on water and sanitation; disease prevention; and maternal and child health. This foundation will help support the next levels of literacy and economic and community development. These two layers will then support the final piece of the Rotary plan which is global peace.  Governor Vars then took the opportunity to learn more about our Club and our passions. He concluded his talk by promoting the Rotary District 7850 Conference which will be held in Sherbrooke, Quebec from May 3rd through May 5th, 2019.

Essex Rotary Corn Booth

Thank you to all of the Rotarians who have signed up for shifts at the Corn Booth.  We still, however, have a handful of shifts that need to be filled.  Presently, close to one-third of our members have yet to sign up for a shift.  In fairness to those who have already signed up for two or more slots, we ask those of you who have not signed up to please help us fill the remaining shifts. Ray Allaire has passes for parking and entrance into the Fair for our volunteers. You may pick them up from Ray at future meetings or at Sunray Fire and Security located on 1 Market Place, Suite #29 in Essex.  Finally, for those who are interested, Corn Dollars are still available for purchase. For $20.00 you can get ten Corn Dollars. One Corn Dollar is good for one ear of corn at the Corn Booth. Corn Dollars can be given to friends, family members or anyone else who might enjoy an ear of corn at the Fair. For more information about the Corn Booth, please contact either Mike Dimitroff or Ray Allaire.

Volunteers Needed for Senior Luncheon

As hard as it is to believe, our Club is already in talks with the Knights of Columbus about our annual Senior Luncheon.  This year’s event will be happening on December 5th at the Champlain Valley Exposition. So why are we bringing this up in the dog days of summer?  Simple.  WE NEED ONE OR TWO ROTARIANS TO STEP UP AND SPEARHEAD THIS PROJECT.  We would really like to see one or two of our newer Rotarians take the ball and run with this project.  It is actually one of our easier service projects to run and it is something that is very beneficial to our community. If you would like to be the new point person for this project, please contact either President Andy at andylove@me.com or Lois Parmelee at LParmelee01@gmail.com

Upcoming Meeting Schedule:  Wednesday, August 29, 2018 – There will not be a regularly scheduled meeting next week as we will be busy selling corn at the Fair!
