Meeting Recap

Greetings fellow Rotarians! Today’s speaker was Dr. Turner Osler, the founder of local start-up company QOR360. This innovative Chittenden County company develops ergonomic office chairs that will change the way we sit and work.  Dr. Osler explained that 80% of Americans report back issues at some point in their lives compared to just 3% of people in Japan.  He attributes this disparity to the fact that people in our country do not engage in what he described as “active sitting”.  In an effort to combat this issue, Dr. Osler has developed chairs that focus less on lumbar support and more on its user finding his or her natural center of balance. This allows people to naturally correct their postures and to be in a form of constant movement while siting.  In addition to alleviating back pain, the constant movement improves the user’s cardiovascular health.  At this point, Dr. Osler’s company is in the beginning stages of production.  In addition to winning the recent Essex Road Pitch event, QOR360 is attempting to gain exposure on the television show, “Shark Tank”. Following his talk,  guests in attendance had the opportunity to try out different versions of the chairs.  For more information about QOR360’s products, please visit its website at https://qor360.com/
Essex Rotary Golf Tournament
We are only 35 days away from this event and there are still a lot of sponsors to secure! In order for this event to once again be a success, we need every one of our members to hit the ground running and to ask as many businesses as possible to support this event.  Each week, Dave Johnson will update the list of sponsors.  He and other members of the Golf Committee can also point you in the direction of potential sponsors to solicit.  Please contact Dave Johnson at mdjkiln@gmail.com if you have any questions about this event.
Annual Rotary Awards
As we approach the end of the fiscal year, our Club is seeking nominations for end of the year awards.  In particular, we are seeking nominations for Rotarian of the Year; Rookie of the Year; and Unsung Hero of the Year.  The winners will be chosen by a committee and announced at this year’s Changeover Dinner on June 26th at Maple Street Park.  If you know of any Rotarians who are deserving of these awards, please get your nominations to Sharon Dettenrieder at sharon.dettenrieder@gmail.com by May 17th.
